TDI South Bend, Indiana, truck driver finds success at Halvor Lines

One of Troy Stout’s favorite childhood photos shows him with his mother, all smiles as they pose in front of his father’s semi-truck. He had always dreamed of over-the-road trucking, so one day he traded his job as a mechanic for Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training at the Truck Driver Institute (TDI) in South Bend and applied for work with Halvor Lines.

Thanks to a long-standing partnership between TDI South Bend and Halvor, Troy made a seamless transition from his CDL training into Halvor’s Finishing Program, which provides paid OTR training

Troy decided early on to drive with Halvor, thanks to a 2-hour conversation he had with one of our drivers. So he applied to Halvor Lines at the same time he enrolled in TDI South Bend. His training included a detailed tour of a Halvor truck and trailer. The quality of Halvor’s equipment left Troy even more convinced he was on the right path.

After starting in Halvor’s dry van division, Troy transitioned to hauling flatbed trailers. He credits his flatbed trainer for teaching him best practices for load securement and transport. Troy is now a trainer himself, a move that has increased his income and allows him to share his expertise with a new generation of drivers.

If you’d like to hear about Halvor Lines directly from Troy, he shares his thoughts in this video.
