Halvor Lines celebrates 50th anniversary
SUPERIOR, WI – Fifty years ago, Bill Vinje and four friends teamed up to haul Christmas trees and snowmobiles from Canada to the U.S. Their trucking company, Halvor Lines, quickly developed a reputation for fair prices, on-time deliveries and honest service.
Under Bill Vinje’s leadership, Halvor Lines grew into a significant U.S. carrier, delivering goods to Canada and the continental U.S. The company has continued to grow under the guidance of his son, CEO Jon Vinje, and nephew, President Ryan Fraley.
Today, Halvor Lines employs more than 600 people, including more than 500 drivers, and works with more than 100 independent truck owner-operators. Headquartered in Superior, WI, it also has terminals in Rosemount, MN, and South Bend, IN. Halvor drivers transport everything from building materials to frozen foods.
The company has won many awards, including Best Fleets to Drive For (six years running) the U.S. EPA’s SmartWay Excellence Award (2016-18), and numerous safety awards from the Truckload Carrier’s Association and the Minnesota Trucking Association. Halvor was also named a “Patriotic Employer” by the U.S. Secretary of Defense and has also won several awards for its workplace employee health programs.
