The Haul of Honor: Wreaths Across America
Every year, during the holiday season, Wreaths Across America touches hearts across the nation by honoring veterans with a simple yet profound act: laying wreaths on their graves. This year, two of Halvor Lines’ veteran drivers, took part in this mission.
Jeff K. was in the US Navy from 1989 to 1993 and served in Desert Storm. While the veteran now works at Halvor as a company driver, his duty to his fellow brothers and sisters never stopped.
“I’d do Wreaths Across America every time,” Jeff said. “As a disabled vet, I would make these deliveries over and over again.”
2024 marks the fourth time Jeff has delivered wreaths to the graves of American veterans. This year, he dropped his hauls in towns in Kansas with his 18-year-old son Jackson.
“It means the world to me to have my son at my side. Not many 18-year-olds would be willing to take time out of their life to make a trip like this,” Kuck said. “We have met so many great people in Kansas who take Wreaths Across America very seriously.”
A few states over, veteran Mark P. was also hauling wreaths this year. The Army Corporal, along with his wife Carol, went to Arlington National Cemetery to honor the men and women who laid down their life for the country.
“This is what I consider honoring my brothers and sisters in the military. Those who passed before me to give us freedom,” Mark said. “I’ve been dedicated to this for six years now.”
Mark was in the military from 1976 to 1982 and takes immense pride in being able to honor those who stood with him.
“Being able to go to Arlington National Cemetery for Wreaths Across America is a privilege, and very humbling,” Mark said.
Wreaths Across America is more than just another haul for these drivers. It was a heartfelt journey filled with purpose, pride, and reflection. Mark and Jeff shared their appreciation for Dispatcher Charmaine, who from the beginning, coordinated getting our drivers involved in Wreaths Across America.
